From raw materials to circular solutions
Sustainable Sourcing
Strong partnerships. Responsible sourcing. A more sustainable value chain.
Responsible sourcing at Walki
Our supply chain plays a critical role in enabling sustainable packaging and technical materials. Raw materials, logistics and supplier operations together represent a significant part of our environmental footprint.
That is why we work closely with our supplier network to ensure responsible sourcing practices, improve environmental performance and support the transition towards a circular economy.
By strengthening communication, sharing knowledge and building long-term partnerships, we aim to create lasting value across the entire value chain.
Our approach focuses on three key priorities:
- Responsible and traceable raw materials
- Decarbonising the supply chain
- Engaging suppliers through shared sustainability commitments

Our priorities
Our approach focuses on three priorities that strengthen responsible sourcing and collaboration across our global supplier network.
Sustainable raw materials

Raw materials account for a large share of Walki’s environmental footprint. These impacts are mainly linked to forestry and wood processing, as well as the manufacturing of polymer and aluminium materials.
Responsible sourcing is therefore essential to reducing environmental impact and supporting circular material solutions.
We prioritise raw materials that:
- Originate from responsibly managed forests
- Support circular material flows, including recycled and bio-based options
- Meet strict quality and sustainability standards
Forest certification schemes such as FSC and PEFC help ensure responsible forest management that protects biodiversity while maintaining forest productivity. Walki’s target is to achieve 100% certified renewable fibre-based raw materials by 2030.
We also follow evolving regulatory frameworks, including the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), to ensure traceability and compliance across our fibre supply chain.
In parallel, we continue to develop solutions that integrate recycled and bio-based materials, supporting our transition towards circular material systems.
Supply chain decarbonising

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain is central to Walki’s climate strategy.
The production and transportation of raw materials represent the largest share of our Scope 3 emissions, making supplier collaboration essential for meaningful progress.
We work with suppliers to:
- Increase transparency on product and transport emissions
- Improve data collection and reporting
- Identify emission hotspots
- Develop targeted reduction initiatives
This collaboration enables more accurate emissions data and helps prioritise the most impactful actions across our supply chain.
In addition, we continuously optimise logistics and transportation to reduce environmental impact while maintaining reliable supply for our customers.
Engaging our suppliers

Strong partnerships are essential for building a responsible supply chain.
All suppliers are expected to comply with Walki’s Supplier Code of Conduct, which defines minimum standards covering:
- Legal compliance
- Business ethics and anti-corruption
- Labour and human rights
- Health and safety
- Environmental responsibility
- Non-discrimination and fair working conditions
Our Supplier Handbook provides further guidance on compliance requirements, documentation and certification expectations.
Certification requirements vary depending on the type of material or service provided, including specific standards for food-contact and non-food-contact applications.
Through ongoing dialogue and cooperation, we support suppliers in strengthening sustainability performance and advancing shared goals.
Responsible sourcing built on trust and collaboration
Responsible sourcing requires clear standards, transparent supply chains and continuous innovation. Through recognised certifications, traceability and supplier collaboration, we strengthen sustainability performance across our value chain.
Certifications & Standards
Strong governance and recognised certifications help ensure responsible sourcing across our supply chain.
Walki follows internationally recognised standards and certification schemes that verify responsible forest management, environmental performance and supply chain transparency. Independent certifications provide assurance that raw materials are sourced responsibly and that production processes meet strict environmental and quality requirements.
For fibre-based raw materials, certification systems such as FSC and PEFC help ensure materials originate from responsibly managed forests while maintaining traceability through the entire supply chain.
Across our operations we follow recognised management standards that support continuous improvement in environmental performance, quality management and responsible procurement.
Examples of certifications and standards may include:
- FSC™ Chain of Custody
- PEFC Chain of Custody
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management
- ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
- Other relevant industry or product certifications
Supplier
Innovation
Innovation across the supply chain is essential to accelerating the transition towards more sustainable materials and solutions.
Walki works with suppliers, technology partners and research organisations to develop new material technologies, improve recyclability and reduce environmental impact across our products.
By collaborating early in the innovation process, suppliers can contribute valuable expertise in areas such as:
- sustainable raw materials
- circular material solutions
- low-carbon production technologies
- resource-efficient manufacturing
- recyclable packaging structures
These partnerships help drive progress across our entire value chain and support the development of next-generation material solutions.
Traceability & Transparency
Transparency across the value chain is essential for responsible sourcing.
Walki works closely with suppliers to improve visibility into the origin, processing and transportation of raw materials. By strengthening traceability systems and data sharing, we can better understand environmental impacts and ensure compliance with evolving regulations and sustainability requirements.
Certification systems and chain-of-custody processes allow materials to be tracked throughout the supply chain, helping ensure that raw materials originate from verified and responsibly managed sources
This transparency enables us to:
- Monitor sustainability performance across our supply chain
- Identify environmental impact hotspots
- Strengthen responsible sourcing practices
- Support regulatory compliance and reporting
Through collaboration and reliable data, we aim to continuously improve supply chain transparency while building trust with suppliers, customers and stakeholders.
