Walki has named Oliver Waddington as its new Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland. Waddigton, who joins Walki following seven years with Metsä Board, intends to establish the company as the leading provider of extrusion services on the important UK and Irish markets.
Walki, a leading global producer of multi-layer laminates and protective
packaging materials, operates the only tandem extrusion machine in the
UK and Ireland from its plant in Garstang. Tandem extrusion makes it
possible to apply a single polymer layer onto both sides of a substrate
in a single machine run or, alternatively, a double polymer layer can be
applied onto one side of a substrate. The technology also facilitates
the combination of lamination and polymer extrusion.
“Tandem technology allows us to deliver an outstanding result in one single machine run, instead of having to run a substrate through the machine twice. This process is more time efficient, produces less waste and uses less energy than any other double extrusion solution on the market," says Walki’s newly appointed Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland, Oliver Waddington.
Waddington, who joins Walki following seven years as Customer Service Manager for Metsä Board in the UK and Ireland, holds a degree in Food Marketing and brings with him an exceptional level of expertise in the board and packaging industry, as well as a passion for great customer service.
“I’m looking forward to establishing Walki as a leader and high-quality service provider of extrusion solutions in the UK and Ireland," says Waddington. “I am here to re-focus our sales activities by helping Walki to provide the kind of first-class service and value-adding solutions that make a real, tangible difference to our UK and Ireland customers’ businesses."
Tandem extrusion is a suitable solution for everything from metallised polyester (MetPol) lamination, to packaging for frozen or chilled food, as well as cupstock, food service and other specialist packaging solutions.

The benefits offered by polymer extrusion and
extrusion lamination include outstanding surface smoothness and gloss,
great printability and easy embossing – key requirements when producing
metallised cartons for use in areas such as healthcare, food &
beverage, and cosmetics. Walki’s packaging products also provide
excellent barrier solutions against moisture, odour and taint, as well
as potentially harmful mineral oils, the latter of which is crucial when
packaging is used in direct contact with food.
“Walki offers a range of market-leading technological solutions, in addition to the Tandem Extruder here in the UK. I’m excited to utilise our unparalleled technical expertise to work together with customers to develop solutions that meet real market demands and generate benefit right across the value chain," concludes Waddington.
